Thank you for continuing to take the time to visit our Bathrooms Showroom.

Was it a bedroom, a closet, or a sitting area? Whatever this space was in its former manifestation in this Victorian home, it wasn't a bathroom, although that is what it had transformed into. Having taken a year and a half to remodel their kitchen on their own, this client knew better than to endeavor into another project, they bit the bullet, and somewhat reluctantly hired a professional.

Built shortly after the turn of the century, this house is replete with traditional style and architectural elements; hardwood floors, wide casing and base, and plenty of details. With the exception of this second floor bathroom the home showed plenty of charm and character. For this project that was the plan, gut this borax, fill it with creature comforts and detail, and do it on a shoestring budget.

With the experience of remodeling already under their belt the Owner insisted that they would stretch their buying power by completing the demolition on their own. After gutting the rooms lath plaster and 5 layers of flooring it became horribly evident that this was not built as a bathroom originally. Subsequently, the entire joist structure had to be re-fabricated. After a visit from the building inspector and a $500.00 change order to re-build the floor the project was back on track.

New plywood subflooring, usual and customary rough plumbing modifications, relocation of a heat duct, and a new tempered glass window with all the goodies was added to the space prior to insulating two exterior walls, running additional electrical, and installation of drywall. A combination of tongue and grooved, pre-finished, Oak flooring and mosaic tile was added to the floor, Kohler Memories fixtures, including a cast iron whirlpool, were selected, and a ceramic tile shower surround was installed. Maple cabinetry for a makeup and linen storage area were installed along one wall with a laminate top surface, and a Maple medicine cabinet and secondary face frame cabinet was put in to a space carved out of a stud cavity.

The Owners accessories and lighting fixtures echo the polished chrome faucetry and the brushed nickel cabinet hardware in this new bathroom. And yes, after this bathroom remodel they wished they had contracted for their kitchen in the first place!
