Bathroom Remodeling
Thank you for continuing to take the time to visit our Bathrooms Showroom. The time had come to personalize the second floor primary bathroom through remodeling. The challenge was to get all of the amenities that the Owners wanted into a very limited amount of space without adding on. The space measured a meager 8'-6" long, by 7'-6" wide, at the widest point of the room. A few of the wish list items our client had their eye on included, a two person custom shower with separate controls and heads, a full size whirlpool tub with a deck, a custom double vanity with two sinks, dual medicine cabinets, supplemental forced air heat, linen storage in the space, enhanced lighting, and the feeling of a larger space. A tall order for such a small space! In order to gain an additional 2' in the length of the space, a linen closet that shared a common wall with the existing single shower stall was eliminated from the hallway. This allowed the extra space necessary to create a custom sized space for the new 2-person shower. Nothing could be done to increase the width of the bathroom, as each of the sidewalls was common with adjoining bedrooms. Because the bath was on the second floor we were able to open the existing 8' high ceiling to the attic space above. The attic floor joists were removed over the bathroom and the ceiling was re-framed to create a 12' high, hip style, cathedral ceiling. A stepped back soffit was constructed around the perimeter of the room that conceals, incandescent, low-voltage rope lighting. This light reflects upward, across the ceiling for a soft, ambient illumination effect. A 32" x 60" whirlpool was added. This set the size parameter for the new shower. A 7' high wall with an Oak cap was constructed between the spa and the new shower to separate the two areas and to accommodate the plumbing supply lines for each area. The shower walls and basin were constructed out of SwanStone solid surface material, with custom fabricated glass doors. Separate showerheads and mixer valves were added on each side of the shower. The vanity is frameless, Cherry, custom cabinetry for linens and toiletries. Hidden inside the top drawer of the vanity is an outlet that allows a hair dryer to remain plugged in but out of sight. The vanity top and backsplash is 1-1/4" thick, polished granite, with 2 Kohler undermount sinks and Moen faucets. The medicine cabinets and lighting above are Robern. Although not visible in the photography, concealed in the toe kick of the vanity is a thermostatically controlled, fan forced air, electric heater on an independent timer. The finished flooring and the backsplash for the spa is polished Limestone. The Owners accessories are polished chrome with brass details to match the faucetry and cabinet hardware in the room.
