The second floor community bathroom was tired and worn out. The existing shower was too small for mister homeowner to take a real shower in. Basically, it was time for a change. Without any children living in the house this became an opportunity to create the master suite that the owners were longing for. The existing bathroom was gutted, a walk-in closet from a bedroom was removed and re-located, new walls were built to incorporate the bathroom into the bedroom space and other walls were removed to create the suite. The new bathroom was tripled in size. The original design for the new bath required a significant modification when upon demolition it was discovered that the plumbing piping and the drywall ceiling below was the only thing holding up the floor! The entire floor joist system in the remodeled space had to be re-constructed, all of the existing mechanical systems had to be abandoned and removed, and a new layout was developed that fit within the limitations of the new framing and mechanical systems. The new master bathroom includes a pocket door separation from the bedroom, a decked two-person whirlpool with a Roman tub faucet, a liberal neo-angle tiled shower, ceramic tile flooring, a Cherry wood his/her vanity base with Arts and Crafts hardware, a drop in China sink, MOEN faucetry, and a beautiful ROBERN medicine cabinet. All of the accessories such as towel bars match the faucetry tying the entire design together. To create a sense of even greater volume in the new bath, the ceiling was vaulted and follows the rafter pitch of the roof above. View More Projects |
